It took only until Jan. 2 for the first construction supply acquisition to be announced, when Builders FirstSource said it purchased Premium Building Components, a truss company with operations in Queensbury and Ballston Spa, NY.

Since then, Heritage Landscape Supply Group, an arm of The Home Depot's SRS Distribution, grew in Florida by five locations with its purchase of Big Earth Supply. Elsewhere, Lake Mills (IA) Lumber's longtime owners sold to locals; The Helpful Hardware Co. bought Jones Hometown Hardware of Jackson, GA; and SiteOne Landscape Supply expanded in Southern California by purchasing Santa Monica's Bourget Flagstone.

Announcements of greenfield plans also indicate this will be a busy year. Among lumber-centric operations, Arnold Lumber will open a store in Attleboro, MA; R.P. Lumber just opened in Carlyle, IL; McCoy's Building Supply is coming to New Caney, TX; and Forge & Build is putting up a big new facility in Boerne, TX.

All told, nearly 50 openings have been announced. The majority involve hardware stores; Westlake Ace Hardware plans grand openings at 10 new locations, and sister operation Great Lakes Ace Hardware will have two. Lowe's is opening four stores and The Home Depot three.

ABC Supply is set to announce two new store openings; Gleckler & Sons has opened in Ocala, FL; and and roofer Erie Materials is going into Poughkeepsie, NY.

On the other hand, Lowe's will close five of the Artisan Design Group stores it purchased in 2025. All five are in Washington State. Meanwhile, McCoys Building Supply is departing Plainview, TX.
