Halfway through 2026, the acquisitions market and greenfield openings count for construction supply companies are remarkably similar. The big difference involves deal size.

Through July 15, Webb Analytics' Deals Database has tracked 61 acquisitions involving 773 locations, mainly in the U.S. with a few in Canada. By the same point in 2025, the database had recorded 62 transactions, but those deals brought in 1,324 locations.

Why the difference? So far this year, the biggest deals saw QXO purchase TopBuild, bringing it 437 locations, as well as Kodiak Building Partners, landing it another 114 facilities. Add White Cap's purchase of the 58-store Colony Hardware chain and The Home Depot's acquisition of HVAC dealer Mingledorff's 41 stores, and no other deal involved more than 15 locations.

In contract, the first half of 2025 saw QXO buy Beacon Building Products (655 locations), The Home Depot's SRS Distribution acquire GMS (434 stores), and Lowe's take over Artisan Design Group (91 locations).

We also have seen 121 greenfield openings take place or get announced so far this year vs. 113 that had taken place by July 15, 2025.

In recent action:

  • Ogden & Adams acquired Bellevue (IA) Lumber and Maquoketa (IA) Lumber.

  • GMS, part of The Home Depot's SRS Distribution, took over Central Materials of Edinburg and Olmito, TX.

  • ABC Supply bought Koch Building Products of Sandusky, OH.
