Nearly 1,000 LBM Yards Have Been Bought, Opened, or Closed So Far in 2026

All the talk about a challenging economy and high lending rates hasn't slowed the past few years' hot pace for construction supply-related acquisitions and greenfields. And while QXO remains the biggest force, the number of buyers and types of deals extend far beyond what Brad Jacobs is doing.

Through Aug. 5, Webb Analytics' Deals Database has recorded 70 purchases by 52 buyers for 788 construction supply locations, plus 135 greenfield openings and 71 greenfield closures. The 994 actions already top the full-year numbers for 2018 through 2020 plus 2022 and 2023. At its current rate, 2026 looks likely by Dec. 31 to trail only 2025's 1,824 acquisitions, 204 openings, and 121 closures for annual activity.

QXO's acquisition of TopBuild (437 locations) and Kodiak Building Partners (114 locations) dominate the list and help explain why the number of facilities acquired per deal stands at 11.3, a ratio that has only been beaten once--it was 14.4 in 2025--in any year since 2018. But seven recent deals give a sense of how diverse the activity is:

• Bliffert Lumber & Fuel bought East Side Lumber of Hudson, WI.

• Builders FirstSource acquired Innovative Construction Group, a building components manufacturer based in Jacksonville, FL.

• Big C Lumber took over a cabinet specialist, Priebe's Creative Woodworking of Benton Harbor, MI.

• Home Central acquired fellow home center Corning (NY) Building Co.

• SiteOne Landscape Supply's Devil Mountain Wholesale Nursery took over Patterson Nursery Sales of Eagle Creek, OR.

• Aubuchon Ace Hardware acquired Anchor Ace Hardware of Sandwich, MA, from Marine Home Center.

• Central Network Retail Group, part of Orgill, bought Terry's Hardware of Hastings, MN. Terry will be renamed as Frattallone's Hardware & Garden, the Minneapolis-based chain in the CNRG network.

All of those acquisitions were one-store deals. The biggest purchase in the past six weeks involved L&M Fleet Supply, which bought the seven store Family Center Farm & Home group of Missouri and Kansas.

Greenfields also have been common, including Exter Lumber in Newington, NH; Decks & Docks in Denver; and CFE Lumber in Hawarden, IA. In addition, ABC Supply Interiors stores opened in Tupelo, MS; Sulphur Springs, TX; Springfield, MO; and East Syracuse, NY.
