What's the Value of Promotion? Home Depot and Lowe's Mower Sales Show the Impact

Grips Intelligence data also reveals online sales and market shares

By Craig Webb

Newly released data on mower sales at The Home Depot and Lowe's indicates Mother Nature isn't the only reason why spring is the big season for lawn and garden products. And related data shows that online remains a powerful purchasing option even after the weather warms.

The data illustrates how mower sales at The Home Depot and Lowe's shot up starting the week of March 19 and peaked in the second half of April. Those correspond roughly with The Home Depot's "Spring Starts" sales campaign March 19 through April 1, followed by its "Black Friday" sales April 9-22. They also come close to Lowe's "SpringFest" March 26 to April 22, the last two weeks of which also were marked by its "Black Friday" sales. Together, the three peak weeks accounted for 21% of all sales made in 2026's first half.

These findings come from numbers supplied by Grips Intelligence and shared with Webb Analytics. Grips Intelligence provides marketing and sales intelligence through daily SKU, brand, and category sales involving both online and in-store retail activity.

From this, it concludes that The Home Depot and Lowe's sold at least $1.05 billion worth of mowers and related equipment in the first half of 2026. The total is "at least" $1.05 billion because Grips was able to count Lowe's sales of riding mowers, push mowers, robot mowers and related accessories, while its Home Depot numbers exclude riding mowers and accessories.

Of that $1.05 billion total, Grips estimates roughly $920.2 million of the mower sales took place in-store and $132.1 million of the sales came from online.

Grips' report to Webb Analytics also broke out online sales by The Home Depot and Lowe's. It shows that, during the winter months, online sales can account for as much as a quarter of total sales. Those shares drop to below 12% as summer arrives, but in dollar terms the sales volume actually is bigger.
